Cutters drop home opener

The Williamsport Crosscutters in search of winning their first home opener since 2003 lost a heartbreaker to the State College Spikes in the second game of the 2009 SawBuck series.  The Cutters were also denied their first 2-0 start to a season since becoming the Crosscutters.  For the 3rd consecutive home opener the start of the game was delayed by rain, this time for an hour and thirty-five minutes.

In his first start as a Cutter, P Jonathan Pettibone dominated as he went five strong innings yielding two hits, no runs and six strikeouts. The Cutters gave him an early lead scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the first on three hits including RBI singles by Jeremy Barnes and Micheal Dabbs.

In the sixth inning the Spikes would rally to take the lead off of relief pitcher Reginal Simon.  The Spikes used some small ball and a few pitching miscues to score three runs providing them with a lead.
