ETTRICK - Virginia State University announced this morning that its next president will be Keith T. Miller, president of Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania.

Miller, who holds a bachelor's, master's and Ph.D degree from the University of Arizona, will succeed the current president, Eddie N. Moore Jr., on July 1, 2010. He will be the historically black university's 13th president.

Before assuming the presidency at Lock Haven, Miller was provost and vice chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, dean of the College of Business at Niagara University in Niagara Falls, N.Y., and associate dean of the School of Business at Quinnipiac College in Hamden, Conn.

Miller and his wife, Nicolette, have three children.

ESPN Radio 1050 and 104.1 has learned that Dr. Keith Miller, President of Lock Haven University is stepping down from his position effective at the end of June 2010.

LHU is scheduled to release a statement at noon today.

Update: Dr. Miller was just announced as the President of Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA. He succeeds Eddie N. Moore, Jr. who will retire as President of VSU in June 2010.

Here is the e-mail from Dr. Miller this morning:

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I write to inform you that I will be leaving Lock Haven University on June 30, 2010.  I will be here to complete the 2009-2010 academic year.    As many of you can attest, life takes different turns as we go through various stages.  My life, and that of my family, is about to take another turn this summer.

On July 1, 2010, I will assume the presidency of Virginia State University, one of two land grant institutions in the State of Virginia, as they seek to become a Carnegie doctoral/research intensive university.   I am excited to be a part of this new challenge.

It has been my good fortune to serve as president of Lock Haven University for approximately six years. The notable accomplishments of LHU through the years are the result of outstanding faculty and staff, among others, with a commitment to excellence.   Thank you for your loyalty and dedication.    I look forward to helping LHU make a smooth transition for new leadership.   There will continue to be some challenges that we will need to undertake in the coming months, and I will be working with all of you to meet these challenges.   I am confident that Lock Haven University will continue to flourish for years to come.

All the best to all to you and your families.

Keith Miller, President
